Camping Kit List

Beavers, Cubs and Scouts take part in a number of camps and sleepovers every year. For most camps and sleepovers, the kit list will be the same, only the amount of clothing required will change.

Unless otherwise notified, please follow this basic kit list for all camps and sleepovers.

Basic Equipment
Sleeping bag
Roll mat
Pillow (or pillow case to put jumpers in, or inflatable pillow)
Plate, bowl, cup (unbreakable - plastic or enamel)
Knife, fork, spoon (ordinary cutlery is fine, no need for special camping cutlery)
Torch with spare batteries
Water bottle (to carry drinks on hikes, trips, activities away from camp)
Tea towel
Large towel
Wash kit with toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, flannel, roll on or stick deodorant
A black bag for dirty washing

Clothing
Uniform shirt / jumper
Group Scarf
Clean underwear for each day, plus one spare
Trousers / t-shirts / jumpers - 2 or 3 of each for a weekend camp, 6 or 7 of each for a full week camp
Comfortable shoes / trainers / walking boots
Waterproof coat (that can be folded away and carried in a rucksack / pocket)

Note - uniform should be worn to and from camp. Uniform is not normally worn whilst on camp, but may be worn while out on activities.
Note - there may be activities in which the members get wet or muddy. Please avoid fashion clothing or expensive clothing on camp. Cheap / old clothing is fine.
Note - always bring suitable footwear for the activities. Always have spare footwear - if trainers get wet, they take time to dry out or may not dry out at all. Canvas shoes are not suitable for camp.

Other
Consider the weather conditions.
In cold weather you will need more t-shirts and jumpers. You may also need a wooly hat and gloves.
In hot weather, you may prefer shorts instead of trousers / jogging bottoms, and you will need a sun hat and sun cream.
Consider the activities taking place - you may wish to include some really old tatty clothing that can be thrown away.

Please...
Absolutely no jeans on camp - wet jeans get uncomfortable, do not dry out quickly and cause all sorts of problems
No air beds, they take ages to inflate and deflate and can be punctured easily
No penknives - they are not needed
No aerosol deodorants - they are highly flammable and contain gases that can damage tents
Mobile phones / ipods and other electronic equipment are not required on camp and should not be brought on camp. We will not stop anyone taking them, but we take no responsibility for any loss or damage.
Ensure all items of equipment and clothing are named so that it can be returned to you. We take lost property back to the Scout Hut. If we do not know who it belongs to and it is not collected, it may end up in the bin!
