Scouts NewsRehearsals are well underway for this year's panto, Dick Whittington. Performances will be on December 3rd and 4th. Congratulations to Zoe for winning the Jack Petchey Award! Very well deserved and we're all very proud! 16 Scouts went on Summer Camp to Gilwell Park, the home of Scouting in the UK. Scouts took part in kayaking, rafting, bungee swing, zip wire, crate stacking, wall climbing and a whole lot more besides! All had a great time. 12 Scouts and 11 Explorers made the trip to Iping in West Sussex for the annual camp at the Iping Horse Trials. All had a great time. 5 Scouts went to the Docklands Scout Project to take part in a day of water activities including sailing, canoeing and kayaking. Despite the weather, all had a great time! Congratulations to both teams who entered the Adkin camping competition. Despite some Scouts dropping out at the last minute, both teams did really well in achieving Silver standard. Well done! Friday 17th June was our Christmas Party with sleepover. We had a full Christmas roast with all the trimmings, followed by Christmas puddings, mince pies, Christmas cake and loads more. Scouts all bought Secret Santa pressies and Santa turned up to hand them out. There was music, dancing and a whole lot of fun! Many thanks to all the Scouts for coming along, preparing the food and clearing up in the morning. Many thanks also to all the parents who helped out with cooking and tidying up and everything else - parent help is very much appreciated! Photos will appear here soon! Thank you to all the Scouts that came along to the fun camp. It was really good to see you helping the Beavers and Cubs join in. Great behaviour all round! And many thanks for packing up camp and clearing the site - not a single tent peg or piece of litter was left behind. Congratulations to Hannah for winning the Jack Petchey award! That's 5 of our Scouts that have won this award in the last year! Congratulations to Pip for winning the Jack Petchey award this month! That's 4 of our Scouts that have won this award in the last year! Congratulations to the team that took part in the GLSW County Night Exercise. The Scouts used a map and compass to find their way to several checkpoints on a long course stretching several miles, and it was in the dark! At each checkpoint the team had to take a different challenge, earning points as they completed each challenge. A total of 42 teams entered, we came 20th. Great effort, hope you all enjoyed it, and better luck next year! February 2011 - Cooking CompetitionCongratulations to the girls who took part in the County Cooking Competition. They came in a very close 4th place, only 6 points short of the 1st place team! Best of all, they really enjoyed themselves, loads of smiles and laughs. We're all very proud of you for taking part in a very tough competition and having so much fun doing it! Many thanks to the parents who helped the Scouts research the recipes, practise the cooking, buy the shopping and who took the girls over to the competition. More photos and report to come soon! February 2011 - Purley Swimathon - A New Record! The team of 2 Cubs, 4 Scouts, 2 Purley Oaks Explorers, 1 Leader and our Chairman (who showed of by swimming one full length under water) swam a total of 117 lengths of Purley Pool in 55 minutes, smashing last years record by 8 lengths.
