8th Purley Support Team

8th Purley Scout Group is a charity and relies on the support of parents and carers to support the Group, to help promote and run social and fundraising events, to help maintain the Scout Hut and equipment and to help with transport to and from activities and camps.

All parents and guardians of Group members are automatically part of the Support Team and are asked to help out wherever possible. Everyone at 8th Purley is a volunteer. Nobody gets paid.

There is always something for everyone to do, whether taking on a regular role or providing occasional help as required. You may wish to work from home whenever you have any spare time, or at the Scout Hut during events, or any other time you can spare. Everyone can help in some way, so please do!

Some ways you can help are::
  • Scout Hut maintenance and repairs;
  • serving teas and coffees at fundraising events;
  • helping maintain Group equipment such as tents;
  • parent reps to Beavers, Cubs or Scouts;
  • helping collect and sort jumble and bric-a-brac at jumble sales;
  • leaflet drops before fundraising events;
  • cleaning the kitchen and toilets (your children use them, somebody has to clean up!);
  • fundraising from home;
  • becoming a member of the Executive Committee;
  • running occasional activities for Beavers, Cubs or Scouts;
  • scrounging materials and equipment for the Group;
  • asking around for raffle prizes for fundraising events.
How to Help
The Support Team is generally organised by the Executive Committee and the Group Scout Leader. To help out regularly behind the scenes or with fundraising, refreshments and so on, please contact the Executive Committee directly.

If you would like to run an activity with Beavers, Cubs or Scouts, please contact the Group Scout Leader or speak to any Section Leader on a meeting night.
